- Remember that the name of the game is Mentirosa,
which in Spanish means deceitful woman, and deceit is the first strategy
you should master.
Play whatever face the previous player calls, whether you have
it or not, and do it quickly so that your opponents don't sense
any hesitation. This will make them think that you
not only have that face, but also have much of it.
Do
not lie all the time, your opponents will notice that. Change it up every
hand or so. This will keep them guessing.
- Don’t be a hero. It is common for new players
to make aggressively high calls, yet rarely does this strategy work.
The best strategy is not to draw attention to yourself. Don’t
try to win, try not to lose.
- You can’t show your hand to other players, but that does not
mean you can’t tell them what you have,
or don’t have.
In other words, during another players turn, say something like, “Kings!
I don’t have any Kings,” especially if you do have
Kings. This will intimidate other players to raise their tubes
or increase the call.
You can also do the opposite and say, “You’re
going to challenge three Queens? I have three Queens myself, not
including what others may have.” This will place doubt in your
opponent's mind and that could mean all the difference.
- If a call is becoming a bit too high for your comfort, try to make
the previous player challenge the call before it is your turn.
While he is considering his next call, stare him in the eye
and say, “No
matter what you call, I am lifting this tube.” This will
make him fear that the calls have in fact gone too high and tempt
him to challenge it himself.
- Always play for something. It doesn’t have
to be monetary, but something to make the game play more interesting.

- Don’t try to get the perfect hand every time.
You are telling your opponents that you only like to play with large
numbers of a specific face. Mentirosa is a game of skill not luck,
one roll or two should be enough.
