PRESS RELEASE – December 1, 2008
MENTIROSA®, THE CLASSIC LIAR’S POKER DICE GAME, EXPERIENCES A REVIVAL AND IS NOW READY FOR A NEW GENERATION OF PLAYERS
MIAMI, FL – December 1, 2008 – Mentirosa®, the classic liar’s poker dice game, is being revived with the debut of a brand new game set.
Mentirosa is a version of liar's poker that is played with Spanish Poker dice and the exclusive Mentirosa Player Tubes available only in this game set.
Unlike traditional poker games that require a poker face and mostly silence, Mentirosa encourages you to trash talk, taunt and tease your opponents. It's the main strategy, hence the name of the game: Mentirosa (Spanish for liar).
Mentirosa is the brainchild of Robert Barrueco, son of Cuban exiles and President of Yuca Productions, a family-owned business in South Florida.
“I’ve played this game since I can remember and we always played with home made tubes and cheap dice. Because it wasn’t available for purchase anywhere, it has remained in relatively small circles when compared to other Hispanic games like dominoes,” says the 35 year old Cuban American. “With my generation coming of age, I felt it was time to give Mentirosa new life, and introduce it to the world like never before.”
Packaged in an exquisite leather-bound case and topped with the Mentirosa emblem, this has become the mark of a true Mentirosa aficionado.
Included are six, exclusive Mentirosa playing tubes, casino-grade Spanish Poker Dice, and instructions in English and Spanish. The sets will be available for purchase at an introductory price of $35. A Travel set is also available and costs around $25 bucks.
The game of Mentirosa is known in many countries, by many different names. Its ancestry comes from a close relative, Cubilete, a game known to have been played as early as the Roman Era, especially in Spain.
Travelling to the Americas during the Spanish Empire, it became widely popular in Cuba and other parts of Latin America during the 19th and 20th centuries.
It is rumored that Mentirosa came about when the American GI's in Cuba combined the popular American game, liar's poker, with the cups and Spanish Poker dice used to play Cubilete.
Arriving in South Florida with exiled Cubans in the 1950s, Mentirosa’s 21st century rebirth will give a new generation of players the opportunity to enjoy this classic game the way it was meant to be played.
